Week 2: Sickened

10 loaded words
glued; strong like she couldn't move
twisted; shows how in pain her stomach was
scanning; kept looking, like she was worried or nervous
dangled; the time was cut short, everyone feeling very tense
flooding; showing how much she wanted to say
pinned; felt like she was trapped
growls; show how the mother talked to julie
rushing; she was trying to tell the doctor
crash; shows how what she said didn't do much because her mom was always right
devour; show how hungry she really was

I learned that Julie's grandmother had some problem as well. She would get into car accidents with Julie on purpose, therefore got her license taken away. She would babysit Julie and feed her candy that she would tell made her sick. Her and Julie's mom would then insist on taking her to the doctor. Julie went to the doctor and didn't look sick, her mom went over with her how sick she was and how she looks when shes sick, so then the doctors can give her medicine to cure her. Her dad finally took and moved the family away from her grandmother. The doctor in their new town gives her a diet because the mother described Julie as being sick to the food there.

I can't believe someone actually live through this. I can't believe the father hasn't noticed nothing is wrong with Julie and hadn't said anything. I feel so bad for Julie , she shouldn't be going through all these doctor offices and medicine when she doesn't need them.

Week 1: Sickened

In my book, Sickened, im reading about munchausen by proxy. I have learned that there are 1,200 new cases a year in the united states. Julie was at the doctors office and hospital for most of her childhood. She gre up in a trailor at the end of a dirt road in Ohio. Her mother was always yelling at the doctors saying that Julie needed to be cured and that there was indeed something wrong with her. She would try and try until the doctors finally did something that the mother thought helped Julie. They had her heart monitored for a while when her mother said she heard and keeps hearing her heart skip. Her father does not know about her going in and getting her chest shaved all the time so they can monitor her heart beat. Julie was yelled at by her mother when Julie was normal when she went to the doctor office, she wanted Julie to show the doctor how bad she was, but all Julie said to this was, "okay," which made her mother happy.

3. Creating our own Happiness

4.That we have the power to create our own happiness.

5. "and I thought to myself, "Oh, those poor people in that punishing wind."
But then I saw their faces. Yes, they were huddling, but they were also laughing."

"I didn't think I stood a chance. But everything turned out all right. A lot of people look at life as a series of miserable tasks, but after that, I didn't."

6. "Through the power of our own minds, we can help ourselves."

The thing I am most anxious about at Edina High School is ...

The thing I am most anxious about at Edina High School is to meet all the new people here. I am sick of the middle school, the same school for four years. None of my classes were mixed grade wise, and we didn't get to know kids older or yonger than us. I am excited to finally be here and have classes with different people and to mix with Valley View.

One goal for myself in my sophomore year is going to use my agenda. Last year i didn't use it at all, and that wasn't the best plan. I plan on being organized and knowing my schedual this year.
